Cold weather causes water main break on Lookout Mountain
LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Tenn. (WDEF) — Cold weather caused a water main break on Scenic Highway Thursday morning.
Crews opened the roads and fixed it by noon.
Adam Chrnalogar, a field operations supervisor with Tennessee American Water, says the water main was in a lot of rock. When there are cold temperatures, the ground shifts, creating a split in the pipe.
Water went into the road and caused icy conditions. There were detours while crews fixed the water main and salted the roads.
According to Tennessee American Water, this isn’t the only case they’ve recently had to fix.
“We have see a slight increase in our main breaks around the area, but our crews work very safely and very fast, to get everything back together,” Chrnalogar said.
Water was shut off for residents in the area while the repairs were made.
