Collecting supplies to send to Kurdish troops fighting ISIS
Decatur, TN (WDEF) – A Decatur man used coaching football to see the world and now raise money and supplies for Kurdish troops battling ISIS.
Football coach Tom Kelly joined with other Kurdish-Americans to stuff a 40-foot container with supplies like Army/Navy surplus items like modern hospital beds, generators, gas masks, cots and more.
These supplies will be shipped directly to a Kurdish General.
Coach Tom Kelly explained, "The Kurdish Peshmerga, they’re looking over the Tigris and Euphrates River and Mosul Dam, and they can’t even take a shower. They’re looking at all that water. But you go down near that water and you get picked off. So they need anti-itch cream, hydro-cortisone cream, they need toothbrushes, things you get for a dollar at the Dollar Tree."
Friday’s donation marked the third 40-foot container sent to the Kurdish general.
