Collegedale affidavit of traffic stop under investigation
Door Dash Driver says he should never have been tazered, document gives officer's side of the stop
COLLEGEDALE, Tennessee (WDEF) – News 12 Now has obtained the affidavit from a traffic stop in Collegedale in which the suspect was tazed and arrested.
The case is now under investigation by both the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office and Collegedale Police following a request by District Attorney General Neal Pinkston.
While those are underway, Delane Gordon and his attorney held a press conference in which they say there was no good reason for the tazering.
Gordon is a Door Dash delivery person who was stopped earlier this month near his delivery location.
The officer says he pulled Gordon over for speeding.
Gordon’s attorney says his client held up his hands and did not resist the officer, but questioned his actions.
His says Gordon has no previous criminal record and this was his first run-in with a police officer.
They presented video at the press conference of the encounter that Gordon recorded from his vehicle.
In the affidavit, the officer says Gordon refused to produce his driving documentation and then refused to get out of the car.
He says he used the Taser twice on Gordon and dragged him out of the vehicle to place him under arrest.
The charges against Gordon are speeding, Resisting Arrest and Disorderly Conduct.
Here is the officer’s account of what happened.
