Collegedale police get new K-9 named Maxim
COLLEGEDALE, Tenn. (WDEF) — There is a new furry addition to the Collegedale Police Department, an 81-pound Belgian Malinois from Hungary.
His name is Maxim, and he turns two years old in January.
The police K-9’s partner is Officer Shawn Lewis.
Maxim, badge number 335, is certified in narcotics detection and tracking.
The Malinois is historically a herding dog and protector of farm and family.
“They’re out there. They’re working hard. They’re doing everything they can to keep us safe, keep their partner safe… get all of the drugs off the street. But at the end of the day, they love having a good time and they love meeting the people they’re out there working so hard to protect,” said Collegedale Assistant Police Chief Jamie Heath.
With over 200 current drug details, the K-9’s are contributing to the war against drugs.
Heath said that they are excited to have Maxim as the new addition to the department, alongside their other K-9 officer, Krino.
