Collegedale sees zoning changes for apartment housing

COLLEGEDALE, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Collegedale Zoning Ordinance held a meeting for what people wanted to see in their growing city.

Keeping the character of the city was the main talking point.

Some other concerns of the stakeholders and community members were protecting the natural resource, a boost in infrastructure and controlling density.

Those in attendance were also interested in the future of apartments in the city.

Those at the meeting thought apartments would not be connected to the community.

“So, our zoning ordinance now is centered around larger lot homes and box stores. We are changing that to more of a mixed use and smaller footprints for buildings,” said City Staff Planner Jason Allin. “I don’t know if you’ve heard of mixed use, but we will have commercial at the bottom and higher residential on top. That is the way the market is going and why we wanted to initiate the zoning change.”

In 2022, the city held a public survey to get input on what residents wanted to see from their community. See those results here.
