Colonial Pipeline explosion update and photos from Social Media
HELENA, Alabama (WDEF) – Five workers were injured and one killed when the gas pipeline they were working on exploded Monday afternoon in central Alabama.
The explosion is on the Colonial Pipeline that was shutdown by a leak at the end of September.
Colonial reports the latest incident happened several miles from the September 9th spill.
But they have shut down their two mainlines in Shelby County, which supply gas to the Southeast and East Coast.
“Those lines remain down at this hour,” according to a company release.
Just last Friday, Colonial issued a final report on the September incident.
The report said the company was now operating at normal capacity again.
But over the next few weeks, “Colonial will be performing system integrity work to remove the temporary bypass in Alabama and restore Line 1 to service.”
