Commercial building fire in Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Shortly before 2:00 this afternoon, Chattanooga firefighters were dispatched to a commercial fire at AABCO Automotive Rebuilders at the 1100 block of  Cemetery Avenue.

Assistant Chief Danny Hague reported smoke showing from the roof.

The fire initially appeared to be coming from an exhaust fan, but the was actually in the layered roofing materials on top of the business.

Chief Hague requested a second alarm response to make sure there was enough personnel and equipment to get the fire out, but also so that the fire companies could take a break from the hot weather.

The blaze was contained in 20 minutes and no injuries were reported, even though three employees were reportedly in the building.

Damages are estimated at around $45,000, mainly from smoke and water.

The cause is of the fire is still being investigated.
