Commission approves MOU for South Broad Stadium
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – The South Broad Stadium project is one step closer to groundbreaking.
The Hamilton County Commission unanimously approved a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between themselves, the city of Chattanooga, and stadium developers Wednesday morning.
This follows the Chattanooga City Council approving the same MOU Tuesday night.
The MOU approves a 32-million-dollar loan that city taxes will be liable for, while the county will be investing 15 million dollars into South Chattanooga schools including Howard.
The total project cost is now $115 million.
The commissioner for the district this stadium will be in, Joe Graham, said, “It’s going to help the community. It’s going to redevelop that community, it’s going to be the shot in the arm that community has needed for many years… Howard is already the biggest school we have in the district, and it’s growing, so it needs all we can get for it, and by re-negotiating the deal like the mayor’s staff did, this is a huge shot in the arm for Howard in many ways.”
The city’s Industrial Review Board and Stadium Authority Board will each have to hear and approve the MOU.
After that, the city and county will have to finalize with one last vote before groundbreaking can begin.
