Community Members request resignation of Etowah Commissioner
ETOWAH, Tenn. (WDEF) – Etowah residents are requesting the removal of City Commissioner Roby Helm after a woman claimed Helm posted bullying and harrassing comments on Facebook.
Community members attended tonight’s City Commission meeting in hopes that Roby Helm would resign from his position as City Commissioner.
Helm stated he would not resign and did not apologize for the alleged inappropriate comments.
Unless Roby Helm resigns, there is no other option to complete the removal. According to rules, commissioners cannot fire each other, therefore the other members did not ask him to resign. The Commission is aware of the reasons for the resignation request.
Etowah resident Cate Pate is the woman involved in the controversy of the Etowah Commissioner’s conduct following comments made after a previous commission meeting. She is requesting online signatures on a zero tolerance petition.
Here is a live stream shared by WJSQ WLAR from tonight’s meeting.
