Community response to South Pittsburg crash that killed 4 football players

grief counseling, fundraisers for the families

SOUTH PITTSBURG, Tennessee (WDEF) – The healing is only beginning in the South Pittsburg community after four young men died in a crash over the weekend.

All five victims in the vehicle were football players, between the ages of 16-22.

Four were killed and the fifth is in critical condition.

The community is coping the best they can:

— South Pittsburg High will be open throughout June (7:00-3:00) for grief counseling

— An account has been set up at Citizens Tri-County with 100% of the money going to family members of the young men.

— A softball tournament has been set up for Saturday to raise money for the families.

Marion County schools superintendent, Mark Griffith, told us on Monday that the county is still feeling the pain from the loss and they just need to continue to be there for one another.

“For 49 years of my life, this is what this community has been all about. Seeing everybody come together as one community. There were people from the north end of the county to the central part of the county, Monteagle. Just people from all over the county coming together as one.”
