Concerns growing for mobile payment app

Numerous Zelle users scammed out of thousands, per online search

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) — An online search by News 12 Now shows several Zelle payment app users were scammed out of thousands of dollars.

Victims report they believed cyber thieves behind the scams were actually representatives from their banks.

George Wilson, the CEO of Southern Payroll & Benefits, says security should be “stepped up across the board” for the app and others like it.

“[For] multiple of our clients every 90 days or so, banks are forcing them to change passwords,” Wilson said. “So as scammers and hackers get more advanced, we need to just try and get more advanced to keep up with them.”

Wilson says he recently heard about a similar “Zelle hack” incident from one of his own clients.
