Conflicting Stories in Fatal Catoosa County Burglary Attempt

Wilson was with Dalton McConathy Monday afternoon when they were snooping around Fred Youngblood’s property, looking for items they could scrap.

Lanphier adds, "This is a juvenile court case.  Judges and myself are very sensitive to the information that’s released to the media concerning these things."

While some details can only be released in court, Wilson’s family did tell us a different story than the one painted by the homeowner.

Wilson’s family says the boys never went into Youngblood’s house or basement, but they did have their sights on two barrels sitting on his property.

Family members tell us Youngblood confronted the boys with a gun and shot not once, but several times.

Lanphier adds, "This is a tragedy. It’s a tragedy on all parts. If you view this situation from any perspective, including the homeowner, no one wins in a situation like this."

According to investigators, Youngblood felt threatened and pulled the trigger because they boys were running in his direction.

Wilson’s family says that’s true, but they were running in his direction because it was the only way off the property.

Wilson’s family members tell us McConathy even said, "Please don’t shoot."

It was too late.

A bullet struck McConathy in the side of the neck.

Wilson held McConathy as he was slowly passing away.

Lanphier adds, "They [ Wilson’s family ] are worried about their boy.  They are worried about his mental state, what will occur to him, what will happen, and the legal ramifications."
