Congressional candidate’s office door smashed

HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF)– A congressional candidate says she was targeted when someone recently smashed her office door.

Dr. Danielle Mitchell is running against incumbent Congressman Chuck Fleischmann.

Mitchell says over the weekend, someone used a rock and slingshot to break the door of her health clinic and campaign headquarters.

Surveillance video captured the door being smashed, but it did not show who did it.

At first she thought it could be kids vandalizing the area.

But when she realized the time it happened and that her office was the only one hit, she believes it was a political attack.

“We are sending a very strong message. This is not just an act of vandalism. This is an act of violence because we are growing intolerant in our society and I will not have people jeopardizing the safety of my volunteers, my staff,” Mitchell said.

Mitchell says she’s working with police to find out who’s responsible.
