Congressman Fields Questions

RINGGOLD, GA. (WDEF-TV) – North Georgia residents got an opportunity to vent their frustrations with the federal government this morning–and ask some questions of their congressman.
The affordable health care act and the controversy over the EPA’s latest moves took up a lot of the time with Representative Tom Graves.

SUE LONG, NORTH GEORGIA RESIDENT "I feel the only people that want to repeal the affordable health care act are people who don’t need it…people like you."

Congressman Tom Graves fielded a variety of questions during his stop at the Depot in Ringgold.
Obamacare was a hot topic.

REP. GRAVES "The compulsion on Obamacare is something I disagree with. I do not believe that you as a consumer should be compelled by the federal government to purchase anything".

Graves says the affordable health care act has caused rates and deductibles to rise across the board.
Another resident, farm owner Amy Finley, says the EPA’s "Waters of the U.S." proposal would take over much of her property.

AMY FINLEY, PROPERTY OWNER "You can’t put cows on this property if you want to do it…I mean, how..they need to be stopped."

REP. TOM GRAVES "I think what you have just shared…is a wide-spread frustration all across the country with the EPA, the IRS and all kinds of agencies within the federal government. Over the last 6 years under this president, and this is not being partisan, there has been more overreach of the federal government than I can imagine in all of history."

The congressman says the only way to stop overreach is up to the voters.

REP.TOM GRAVES "We have to do something, and as to the question of when, when would probably require a new president from a new party."

Congressman Graves says he supports the Tennessee delegation’s effort to arm service members at recruiting stations and posts around the country.
One of the victims of the July 16th shootings, Randall Smith, was a resident of his district.
