Construction worker struck by train in Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — A train struck a backhoe at a construction site on Monday afternoon.

On Monday, Chattanooga Police say crews were working construction near Old Hickory Valley Road and Hickory Valley Road.

Around 1 p.m., a train struck a man who was operating a backhoe.

The man operating the heavy machinery is 52 years old. Police did not release his identity.

Authorities believe the man’s injuries are not life-threatening.

They also speculate that the train operator did not see the construction flaggers.

Police are still investigating. They have not filed any charges.
