Contraband investigation after sweep of Silverdale Detention Center

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Hamilton County deputies used K-9s to sweep the Silverdale Detention Center for contraband on Tuesday.

The Sheriff’s Office reports they did find contraband, but are not saying what it is at this point.

They say this is part of an ongoing criminal investigation to discover the scope of a smuggling operation.

Officials say arrests may result.

The K9 units got plenty of help from the Marion and Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office, Soddy Daisy and East Ridge Police, plus the Lookout Mountain Judicial Drug Force Task Force.

The detention center has been plagued by multiple stabbings and attacks among inmates over the last few months.
