Conversations continue over Meigs County Jail
DECATUR, Tenn. (WDEF)- The Meigs County Commission is still trying to figure out what to do with their county jail.
This is after a state decertified the jail due to overcrowding and other issues back in December.
Meigs County Mayor Eddie Jewell presented two potential options.
One would be to expand the current jail with an additional pod.
Another option would be to acquire a piece of property from T-DOT.
However, other options could be on the table, as frustrations continue over the expense an eventual solution would cost.
Mayor Jewell said, “Any add on is going to be on top of that 8 point whatever is leftover. That’s got to be done.”
One person responded, “So we’re just saying scratch all the voting that we’ve not done on a new jail, we’re pretty much going to be building a new jail anyway.”
There may be a vote on a potential solution in the coming weeks.
