Cortez Sims Who Is Connected to the Jan 7th Chattanooga Shootings Now On TBI Most Wanted List
The teenager is connected to the shooting of four people on West Main street in Chattanooga Wednesday morning that left one person dead.
Catoosa County Sheriff Gary Sisk says he’s not surprised Cortez, who has gang connections, is being linked to the shootings.
"A lot of them seeking with these groups just for support for to show that they belong to something, we have to give them something else to belong something that is better."
Sisk believes Cortez is dangerous and could be armed and warns anyone who comes in contact with him to notify law enforcement.
"We are losing a lot of our young people to gangs to more organized crime events, it’s a shame, they are not becoming productive members of our society, we are losing a lot of our young people and unfortunately its a lot of our young black males that this is involving."
Cortez previously lived at Bedford place apartments in Ringgold and at one point attended Ringgold High School before leaving in 2014.
The principal of Ringgold High School says this is a sensitive and difficult situation.
Principal JR Jones, Ringgold High School,"I would like to assure parents that student safety is the highest priority for Ringgold High School and all schools in our county, we have an SRO in our school and we receive regular updates from Sheriff Sisk to determine appropriate security measures from Catoosa County."
Jones added that there are now, no current students enrolled at Ringgold High School who are either suspects or involved in this investigation.
