Country Group LANCO Stopping in Atlanta on Fall Tour
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — LANCO is making their way to Atlanta Thursday night, as part of the band’s Run, Run, Baby Tour.
Two of the group members actually have ties to North Georgia and the Tennessee Valley.
Lead singer Brandon Lancaster went to Lee University, and drummer Tripp Howell grew up in Dalton, Georgia.
“I met Tripp in Cleveland, Tennessee, actually, at a music festival, and then hung out in Chattanooga that night,” Brandon said. “Then we moved to Nashville. And then Chandler [Baldwin] and Jared [Hampton] all went to MTSU outside of Nashville. So hanging out, playing music. And here we are.”
LANCO is out with a new EP, which was released in early October. It’s a first for the country band in more than two years.
Run, Run, Baby features six songs. One of them, “Honey I Lost My Job Today,” focuses on life’s hardships.
Brandon told News 12 at CMA Fest that they wrote the song during the pandemic.
“It’s one of the most honest songs that I’ve ever been a part of, just talking about that moment where I did lose my job,” he said. “We lost touring, we lost being able to put music out, and we lost a lot, and realizing that, you know, that’s not what defines you, that’s not
what makes you who you are. And really the things that you have – your family and those relationships, is really what’s important.”
Other songs on the EP are more fun and upbeat.
The group even learned a line dance for their music video for “Lasso” at the Nashville Palace.
Fans can also dance along with the band. LANCO posted step-by-step instructions for the dance on their social media pages, August 8.
The group also spoke with News 12 about some of their older music.
Brandon told us he wrote “Greatest Love Story” about the beginning of his relationship with his wife. The song was number one on country radio for several weeks back in 2017.
“Actually, living in Cleveland, Tennessee, got together as teenagers, and then separated, spent some time apart, and end up getting back together,” Lancaster said. “When I wrote that song, it was right around that Cleveland, Chattanooga experience. And it’s funny ’cause we actually weren’t married, so I was kind of like manifesting that in that third verse. But it ended up working out and we did get married. And so, yeah, that song definitely reflects my life. The opening line of that song. ‘I was a troublemaker, and she’s an all-American girl,’ definitely was reflecting my time spent in Cleveland because I was a bit of a troublemaker in Chattanooga.”
Brandon says he wrote part of the song while living in Cleveland.
“It was right in that transitional period, right when I was moving back home, and just kind of piecing it together,” he said. “Some of the chords and stuff started in Chattanooga, and then kind of finished it up in Nashville.”
LANCO’s last show in Chattanooga was at Riverbend Festival in 2019.
“We played Riverbend, and we got like eight songs into our set before a giant rain cloud came up,” Brandon said. “We went ahead and played ‘Greatest Love Story’ just to get it out of the way and had a big old raining dance party.”
“Yeah, we lost a lot of gear that day,” Chandler said. “It was worth it, for sure.”
The band might not be stopping in Chattanooga on their tour this fall, but Tripp says it means a lot to them when they do come to town.
“Chattanooga is kind of like a hometown spot for us,” Howell said. “We don’t play it as much, but when we do, it’s a very special thing, because a lot of us, you know, our family’s very close to Chattanooga.”
