County looking to improve Ooltewah road safety

OOLTEWAH, Tenn. (WDEF) —  Ooltewah roads will be the subject of a study following a fatal crash last month that took the life of a 16 year old boy.

Maxwell Quarles was killed on September 19, 2024 on Snow Hill Road near Ooltewah High School.

A safety audit on both Snow Hill and Hunter Roads to determine what road safety improvements can be done given the increase in traffic.

Hamilton County Mayor Weston Wamp says this safety audit is the first step in this process.

“The important thing to the public is that in this case, studies aren’t just studies they are a prerequisite for taking action. Particularly when it comes to road projects. We have to have identified the concerns and the county has never comprehensively looked to safety at these major routes, not to this level,” said Mayor Wamp.

The Hamilton County Commission will vote to approve this audit next week.
