County to apply for Rails to Trails grant
SODDY-DAISY, Tenn. (WDEF)- A potential future trail in Soddy-Daisy received a positive vote Wednesday.
The Hamilton County Commission approved the county’s park department to apply for a grant to pay for the Rails to Trails Project.
It would create a trail on the unused railroad tracks along Sequoyah Access Road.
The project would cost roughly 8 million dollars to complete, but officials hope to pay for it through grants, and that it would have a similar impact to the Tennessee Riverpark.
Commissioner David Sharpe said, “Since 2005, I think the estimated economic impact of that development is about two billion dollars with a B in our community, so there is a tremendous economic impact for developing the Riverwalk. I’m not sure if those studies have taken place for this project, but if they have, I would be interested in seeing that information.”
There is no established timeline for this project.
