County to give Humane Education Society funds to pay property taxes
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- The Humane Educational Society will likely receive some help to pay off over $250,000 dollars in property taxes.
A new resolution was presented Wednesday morning at Hamilton County Commission to give HES the funding needed to pay taxes that have accumulated on their new property on Randolph Circle.
They say even though they are a non-profit, previous administrative errors during a period of transition led to vital paperwork not being filed.
Commissioners explain despite the price tag, covering the tax is not coming at a cost to Hamilton County.
Commissioner Joe Graham said, “This money is going to be essentially a zero net gain for the county. This is going to give them the money pay the tax, then they’re going to turn around pay the tax, so it doesn’t hurt their business but it also gets it off the books as being delinquent.”
Commissioners are set to vote on this resolution next week.
