Court refuses appeal of life sentence for shooting at police

MONTGOMERY, Alabama (WDEF) – The Alabama Court of Appeals has upheld the conviction of a Monteagle man for the attempted murder of two northeast Alabama police officers.

25 year old Christian James Street got a life time sentence on two counts of attempted murder of the officers.

The incident happened the day after Christmas of 2020.

Officer Luke Ballard of the Stephenson Police and Ryan McCarver with Bridgeport Police were on patrol when they tried to stop a speeding vehicles around two in the morning.

Prosecutors say that during the chase, Street fired 20 shots at the pursuing officers.

When they captured him, police found two guns in the vehicle with Street.

He was convicted last November and was seeking to have the conviction reversed on appeal.

“Mr. Street attempted to take the life of two law enforcement officers and was correctly found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment,” said Attorney General Marshall.

“He will have a long time in prison to think about his crimes.”
