Court rules gender-altering ban for TN children to remain
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WDEF) — A federal appeals court ruled that the ban on altering the gender of children in Tennessee can stay in effect.
Previously, a Tennessee district court judge blocked the ban, saying it was unconstitutional. The judge claimed it was unconstitutional because it discriminated based on sex.
On Saturday, a U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals granted an emergency appeal. The court ruled 2-1 in allowing the ban to stay in effect.
Tennessee is one of 20 U.S. states that has put bans on gender-altering medical surgeries and drugs for minors.
Governor Bill Lee signed the bill into law back in March.
