Court upholds Georgia abortion ban law while challenge goes thru courts

ATLANTA, Georgia (WDEF) – Georgia’s 6 week abortion ban has survived a test in court.

On Monday, the Superior Court of Fulton County refused to put an injunction on the law.

The challenge asked the court to put the so-called fetal heartbeat law on hold while it was being challenged in court.

The law was passed by the Georgia legislature in 2019, but never went into affect until the Supreme Court reversal of Roe v. Wade.

After that ruling, the Georgia law went into affect a week later.

But a new legal challenge was filed one week later.

This ruling keeps the ban in affect while the challenge goes through the court system, which could take years.
