CPD receives $250,000 in DUI enforcement grant
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO) announced grant funding that will be provided to departments across the state.
Each government agency received grants to improve specific parts of their department by the THSO.
Chattanooga Police received $250,000 towards DUI enforcement.
The funding will also grant officers with overtime funding to enforce DUI laws and provide any equipment needed.
“It gives us that extra dollar, if you will, from the state that doesn’t come from our local taxpayers to be able and go and keep our city streets safe… Specifically, we want to make sure that we want to take all folks that are driving intoxicated off the streets,” Major Danny Jones Commander of Special Operations and Support Services said.
Major Jones said about 75% of this grant will go towards paying officers overtime to handle these cases.
