CPD Remembers Tim Chapin Who Died 4 Years Ago

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WDEF-TV) – Thursday is a somber day for the Chattanooga police department.
On this date four years ago, the department lost Sergeant James "Tim" Chapin.
The veteran officer was killed while responding to a robbery at a pawn shop on Brainerd Road in 2011.
28-year-old Jesse Mathews fired the bullet that killed Chapin.
Mathews is now serving life without parole.
Sergeant Chapin was with the Chattanooga Police Department for 27 years.

"Tim was one of those that was not afraid to go into that firefight if you will, and actually take control of the situation the best that he could, and in doing so he ultimately gave his life for."

The Chattanooga police department routinely puts out a notice on the anniversary of the death all officers who died in the line of duty.
