Crafting Warmth Across Continents: The Collegedale Happy Hookers Yarn Club’s Heartfelt Mission

COLLEGEDALE, Tenn. (WDEF) – Local group of crocheters and knitters are weaving across continents—meet the Collegedale Happy Hookers Yarn Club, where they have a crafty heart for serving.

It’s more than just yarn and needles. It’s warmth, creativity, and an abundance of heart. The Collegedale Happy Hookers Yarn Club, a small but mighty group, recently sent 80 beautifully crafted hats to children in Kenya and Zambia—two countries that specifically requested these one-of-a-kind creations.

“To just hear the stories of the impact we are able to have by using our hobbies—something that we love to do—to give back, it’s just fulfilling. It makes your heart smile when we receive the pictures back from Sharon and her siblings. You see the smiles on the kids’ faces, and it just warms your heart,” said Christina Clark, Parks and Rec Supervisor for the City of Collegedale.

And it’s not just the children who are feeling the warmth. Back home, the local knitters are also beaming with pride as they see their handmade creations bring so much happiness to others.

“We were under the understanding that the hats we make for the kids in Kenya were the best hats they’ve ever received, so that makes us feel good. We’ll probably be doing it every year,” said Donna, a member of the Happy Hookers Yarn Club.

With plans already underway for their next shipment, this dedicated group is determined to keep spreading the love one stitch at a time.
