Crane falls in an incident similar to one earlier this year

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – On East Boy Scout Road Wednesday afternoon, you could see a crane tilted to the side after the vehicle officials said operated by Big Woody’s Tree Service toppled over.

“Fortunately, we’re told nobody was inside or near where the crane hit at the time. There might have been somebody down on the first floor, but that’s really unconfirmed, but we can say that we have no reports of any injuries,” Chattanooga Fire Spokesperson Bruce Garner said.

Authorities closed the road as work started to get the crane off the building.

“They very carefully attach cables to the crane that has toppled over, and then gently and very slowly pull it back up until it’s in the upright position,” Garner said.

Hours later, two wreckers were able to get the crane off the condo leaving behind a damaged building.

This isn’t the first time this year something like this has happened.

In February, a tree trimming company was cutting up a tree with a crane when it fell and damaged two homes on Barton Avenue.

The incident left neighbors shocked.

The two homes were condemned and were still condemned when News 12 stopped by on Wednesday.

News 12 spoke with one of the homeowners.

He said he and his family are still living in a temporary home and said they got a settlement for the damage.

Now, he said he plans to knock down the home and rebuild another.

A project he said he hopes to get started next month.
