Department of Public Works

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — A crane lift operation that is scheduled to replace the cooling towers at the Tennessee Aquarium building will cause closures around the construction area.

The operation will take place at the base of the Market Street Bridge on Saturday, February 14, 2026.

The following safety restrictions will be in effect from 7:00 .m. until approximately 12:00 p.m.:

  • Market Street Bridge: The west sidewalk will be strictly prohibited to all pedestrian traffic. Please utilize the east sidewalk as an alternative route.

  • The Passage: Access via the Market Street entrance will be closed to the public for the duration of the lift.

“We’ve coordinated closely with the project teams to ensure the work is completed efficiently while keeping pedestrian traffic a safe distance from the site. We encourage everyone to plan for a slight detour if they’re heading downtown Saturday morning.”
