Crowder to Perform at the Caverns

PELHAM, Tenn. (WDEF) — GRAMMY award nominated Christian music artist Crowder is returning to the Caverns later this month.

He’ll be performing at the venue’s outdoor amphitheater on Saturday, July 23.

Crowder talked to News 12 about his upcoming show.

This is his third time playing at the scenic venue.

His first show in 2019 was inside of the cave. His show last year was at the amphitheater.

“It’s a totally different experience,” Crowder said. “The cavern is such an intimate thing, and the setting geographically is just gorgeous. The landscape of what we’re doing outside at the Caverns is just inspiring in both inside and outside. They’ve got it figured out. Best of both worlds.”

If you’ve see him at the Caverns before, Crowder says you can still expect a different show this time around.

“These brand new songs we’re doing right now are just I think the most fun we’ve had up on stage,” he said. “We’ve got, you know, that new ‘Milk and Honey’ thing came out, and we’ve been playing that music for a bit now, and so it’s getting real good. The set is just the best we’ve ever had I think, and so it’s a fun night.”

Crowder calls his show “porch music with beats,” and says fans should come ready to sing.

The singer/songwriter says he’ll also be featuring some new songs with Passion, and of course music from the ‘Milk and Honey’ album, which released last year.

He wrote that album while quarantined during the pandemic.

“I just started writing, and the stuff that was coming out was really joyful, hopeful. It was not, a lot of people were trying to announce where we were, and how difficult time was, and I just kept writing stuff that’s like, ‘We’re not going to be here forever.’ It was really great for my emotional state, and my spiritual health. It was just very cathartic, and before we knew it, we had a record full of songs.”

In addition to new music with Passion, Crowder is already working on a Christmas album. He plans to call it ‘Milk and Cookies,’ and it will come out sometime this fall.

“There are some really fun songs, like the Elf song is one of the songs that’s on there. It’s a workers rights song, you know, the elves do all the work, all the heavy lifting, and Santa doesn’t do anything but fly the sleigh one night. He’s got one night a year. He’s on task. But at the same time, there’s some really heartfelt, you know, we’ve written a number of originals, probably more than half of the album will be originals, but it’s a really fun album,” Crowder said.

Crowder says he plans to perform those fun songs – along with the Christmas classics – on a Christmas tour this December, which he hasn’t done in a long time.

But don’t expect to hear any of those holiday songs yet at his Caverns show this month. Even if some might celebrate Christmas in July.

As for Crowder’s other music, which you will hear, the singer makes it easy for you to prepare to sing along.

He has the lyrics to his songs from four of his recent albums on his website.

“I think the lyrics are a fairly important part of what we’re doing, since we are making church music, and it does help to know what you’re singing about.”
