Dalton Coach Excited to See Former Catamount Jahmyr Gibbs Go in NFL Draft
Dalton, GA-(WDEF-TV) The NFL Draft goes down this week in Kansas City.
Former Alabama and Dalton high running back Jahmyr Gibbs will hear his name called fairly early.
Most draft boards rank him the second best running back in the draft.
Dalton high coach Kit Carpenter will be cheering on one of the most electric players in Catamounts history.
When Jahmyr Gibbs was running wild at Dalton. Kit Carpenter was the Catamounts defensive coordinator at the time.
Said Carpenter:”We had to practice against it every day. I remember sitting down with Coach Bennett and saying you know what? We’re either really bad on defense or this guy is pretty good. It turned out obviously he was pretty good.”
Gibbs ran a 4.3 forty at the NFL combine recently.
Said Carpenter:”He can go from zero to 60 in a snap. He can make one move inside and boom he’s gone. He can get up to full speed in a hurry.”
Gibbs senior year at Dalton was incredible.
He rushed for over 25-hundred yards with 40 touchdowns.
Heck he averaged 11 yards a carry.
Said Carpenter:(sighs)”That’s a bunch of yardage. Some defensive coordinators shaking their heads somewhere. That’s tough.”
Carpenter feels apart of the draft process because he has been contacted by NFL teams about Gibbs.
Said Carpenter:”We’ve had several scouts come by. Phone-in. They do an extensive amount of homework on anybody they’re going to draft. He’s really a great kid. Great manners. Carrieis himself very well, but intensively private.”
Carpenter admits it will be pretty cool to hear Gibbs name on draft night.
Said Carpenter:”I’m over the moon for him. You know it’s just a great opportunity to be able to showcase what he can do at that level.”
