Dalton council member resigns to run for Congress

DALTON, Georgia (WDEF) – There is an opening on the Dalton City Council.

Member Nicky Lama has officially resigned to run for Congress.

He is one of the dozens of announced candidates to replace Marjorie Taylor Greene in District 14.

Georgia law says you can’t hold two elected positions at the same time.

So he was sworn in for his second term on the council Monday night, but had to resign the seat the next day.

The city will consider a special election to replace him on the same day as the Congressional vote in March.

Candidates for the Ward 2 seat will have to qualify next Monday through Wednesday at city hall.
