Dalton man guilty of child rape

He was convicted of raping a six-year-old

WHITFIELD COUNTY, Ga. (WDEF) — A Whitfield County jury has found a Dalton man guilty of raping a six-year-old child.

William Gilberto Gaspar-Mateo, 37, showed no remorse according to Judge Wilbanks. He believes the man was a risk to the community’s children.

Superior Court Judge Jim Wilbanks sentenced Gaspar-Mateo to serve the remainder of his life in prison. Whitfield County says he will be eligible for parole after serving 30 years.

The child did not disclose the abuse for several years, police said. However, she was able to give graphic descriptions of the abuse during testimony.

Gaspar-Mateo denied the allegations, but he did not attempt to explain the situation.

The trial lasted two days.

The state prosecutor called seven witnesses, including the child and her mother, authorities said.

Whitfield County said the jury included seven men and five women, who returned their verdict after nearly an hour.

Four jurors remained for the sentencing after the verdict.
