Dalton man sentenced to prison for 2022 fentanyl-related death
WHITFIELD COUNTY, Ga. (WDEF) — A Dalton man pled guilty to second-degree murder on Friday for a fentanyl overdose that occurred in 2022.
According to Whitfield County officials, 19-year-old Devin Wayne Crawford pled guilty to distributing a fentanyl pill to a minor in July 2022.
The minor overdosed and died as a result of taking that pill, District Attorney Ben Kenemer explained.
In exchange for Crawford’s guilty plea, the state dropped his felony murder charge and distribution of fentanyl charge.
Judge Scott Minter then sentenced Crawford to ten years in prison. He will follow that with ten years on probation, county officials stated.
There will therefore not be a trial, which was approved by the victim’s family.
