Dalton Officer Involved Shooting After Domestic Incident

Dalton, GA (WDEF) A Dalton Police officer was involved in a shooting after a domestic incident Wednesday morning, but no one was hurt.

The officer had been passing by the area of Cappes Street when a woman flagged him down saying there was a fight going on.

He found 20-year-old Baldemar Jaramillo-Garcia in a physical fight with a woman in front of a residence.

Jaramillo-Garcia was told to surrender, but refused.

He was wearing a bullet proof vest and told officers to shoot him.

The suspect retreated inside; while officers got the woman and two children safely away.

Jaramillo-Garcia then pointed a long gun out a window at officers.

The officer fired once, but hit the window.

The suspect dropped his rifle style BB gun outside the window.
       
He later surrendered and was arrested.

Jaramillo-Garcia faces charges of aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer, reckless conduct, cruelty to children in the second degree, and making terroristic threats.

The officer was placed on paid administrative leave while the GBI investigates; which is department policy.
