Dalton Police release identity of man killed after he ran out of gas

DALTON, Georgia (WDEF) – A Chatsworth man was killed Thursday evening while walking on the Dalton Bypass.

Dalton Police say 63 year old Jerry Jones was hit by a car as he was trying to cross the highway.

He had just run out of gas and was trying to make it to a gas station on the other side.

Police say he was wearing dark clothing and it was after sunset. around 8:20PM.

Investigators do not believe the driver of the car had time to avoid the crash, but the investigation is continuing.
