Dalton Public Schools hosts annual teacher and staff convocation

DALTON, GA (WDEF) – Another school year is about to begin. Teachers and staff members in Dalton, Georgia got fired up at Tuesday’s assembly.

At Tuesday morning’s employee convocation at City Park School, 1,000 folks came together to celebrate and kick off competition for the Spirit Stick.

“Today we had convocation; It’s the first day back for teachers. We always like to get together, celebrate our classified and our certified employees of the year,” Dalton Public School Superintendent Tim Scott said. “Today was a day to just kick off the school year and it was a great day.”

This gathering is all about becoming united to better serve students.

Dalton schools are on a mission to prepare kids for college and career.

“That is our mission and vision. Building quality relationships and providing quality work. It’s all about the student,” said Scott. “We want to be world class. We want to provide a world class experiences for our young people.”

The first day back for teachers seemed to be exciting for faculty and staff.

But make no mistake, these educators say they are serious about making the next nine months as productive as possible.

“I think it is really important to get all of our employees together. They have an opportunity. They do not always get to see each other from school to school and this event gives them that opportunity. They help us make sure that we are focused on what is important and that is our students of our district,” Scott concluded.

Dalton Public Schools will return back to school on Tuesday, August 8.
