Danish Company Showcases High End Tech in Digital Imaging
CHATTANOOGA, TN – Photographers around the world this time of year are adding lenses and bodies and the latest in gear and tech for their passions in hopes that Santa Clause will leave them under the tree for them. To help my fellow enthusiasts out, I invited Area Sales Manager for Phase One Wayne Sandmeyer and local Chattanooga Brand Photographer Karen Culp.
Why would we invite Phase One? Because they are the industry leader in Medium Format High Resolution Digital imaging. Have you ever seen a sound stage at a major movie studio and see the backdrops they use that are life like and in some cases life size backdrops? Those were probably taken on a medium format camera from someone like Phase One.
Founded in 1994, Phase one has always been at the forefront of high resolution digital imaging and cutting edge technology. Wayne and Karen were nice enough to bring some of their gear in to show us the tech behind the industry standard in digital imaging.
“What we are, we are what we call medium format. and, just to give you an idea, what that means is, which is the sensor is six, four, five. It’s a much larger sensor. It’s full frame and also very high resolution. And one of the ways that manifests itself is just being able to do large prints, incredible detail. And, also when we talk about, dynamic range, what that means is the ability to have highlights, detail in the highlights and in the shadows and in the same at the same time, because very often one needs to make a choice, whether you want it, the highlights or the shadows,” says Sandmeyer.
The cameras he says are like a Swiss Army knife in that they’re versatile and have interchangeable parts. They’ve created this by years of research and listening to their brand ambassadors – or sponsored Phase One users like Karen Culp.
“I really wanted to have something that allowed me to do all the things that I do. My photography is not just one thing I needed the workhorse. This one I have the XF. So, I photograph food products, architecture and interiors, which of course means I’m going to need all the lenses that also support that,” says Karen. “I’ve been really happy with it and it goes with me everywhere. It’s my primary camera and I don’t have any reason to change that anytime soon.”
They featured their XF system which is idea for product, architecture, landscape and studio photography. It’s modular in design so unlike other brands, upgrading sensor or imaging power doesn’t require all new equipment. Holding it in your hand you can tell the build quality is solid and uncompromising in what it can do. It unapologetically isn’t made for video or social media content creation, this is a camera system for a serious professional images that want to elevate their work and provide the best possible imaging on the planet.
