Daughter of Man Shot Files $30 Million Lawsuit Against Marion Co. Deputies

MARION COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) – A year ago today, a Marion county man was pronounced dead after being shot by deputies in Whiteside.

The daughter of William John Berner has now filed a 30-million dollar lawsuit.

The suit was filed by Diedra Ann Berner of Catoosa county against Marion County Deputy Chris Masterson, and “unknown deputies”.

According to attorney Robin Flores, Berner was visiting a friend’s mobile home when the deputies responded to reports of a disturbance.

Berner reportedly walked out to his truck to leave and suffered a bullet wound in the chest.

He wrecked his truck a short distance away and was pronounced dead at the scene.
