Dave Staley visits the Lavender Farm in Rising Fawn
RISING FAWN, Georgia (WDEF) – Lookout Lavender Farm looks pretty much the same this year as it did last year when I stopped by. A good number of folks. Enjoying the fields of lavender. Everything. Lavender.
Alice and Bill Marrin are the owners. Alice is essentially in charge. Bill is the mower and weedeater. Remember boys, women win. Women always win.
Anyways, it’s a busy two weeks for the Marrin’s. From the 9th through the 24th, five bucks gets you in. You pick a bunch of lavender. 7 bucks a bundle.
Alica Marrin says “We’re having fun. Just rolling along. It’s actually snowballed. It’s been a joy. We love the people we meet. We love sharing this with them.”
This is the sixth year that Lookout Lavender Farm has been open to the public. Every year, it becomes more popular. The Marrin’s had no idea it would catch on like this.
“It used to be older women coming here. Now it seems to be younger people as well. Especially this year.”
In itself, this has turned into a full time job for Alice and Bill. Two retiree’s from Atlanta. Always adding something too. This year, more jams and jellies.
And this year, a true partnership with an ice cream company. Blueberry Lookout Lavender Ice Cream. Now sold right here in site!!
“They made it in their stores last year. But this year, we have it too!! They called me and said ‘can we have your lavender?’
I said ‘sure! As long as you put our name on it!’ So I sell it to them for cost.”
The Marrin’s say they’ll keep operating this farm for as long as they can. Lavender has worked well for them!
