David Perdue proposes term limits for Georgia elected officials

We look at who the proposal would affect

ATLANTA, Georgia (WDEF) – David Perdue in his race for Governor of Georgia is proposing term limits for statewide elected officials in Georgia.

The former U.S. Senator is running against current Governor Brian Kemp in the Republican Primary.

His proposal is to limit statewide offices to a total of 8 years.

“As an outsider, I firmly believe we need more citizen legislators, not career politicians. That’s why my first bill in the U.S. Senate was a term limits bill,” said David Perdue. “Career politicians caused the dysfunction we see today, and they won’t be the ones to fix it. For too long, 20-year career politicians like Brian Kemp have focused more on advancing their own self-interests than helping the people they were elected to serve. Georgians want tried and true leaders who will make waves to get things done. As Governor, I’ll work with the General Assembly to finally enact term limits for all statewide elected officials in Georgia.”

Perdue’s term limit proposal would not actually have changed his opponent’s career history.

Brian Kemp served 4 years as a state senator, 8 years as the Secretary of State, and 4 years as Governor.

It would, however affect two other Georgia commissioners.

Here is the current lineup of statewide offices and the terms they have served:
