Davy Crockett historical pilgrimage from Tennessee to Texas

GREENVILLE, Tennessee (WDEF) – A pilgrimage has begun from upper east Tennessee to south Texas.

It is honoring the life of Davy Crockett from his birthplace to where he died at the Alamo.

The David Crokett Birthplace State Park is sharing a steppingstone from the Crockett family cabin with the historic park near San Antonio.

Crockett was an early pioneer and lawmaker in East Tennessee.

But he joined the defenders who died in the battle of the Alamo against the Mexican army in 1836.

Four historians are joining the pilgrimage from Tennessee to Texas to spread the word about Crockett.

“We are deeply honored to be part of this ceremony and make this donation,” said Park Manager Joe Nowotarski. “Tennesseans will always feel a connection to the Alamo after Crockett’s heroic efforts. We believe this is an excellent way to contribute to the site, and it gives us a special opportunity to display the comeback of our park.”

The event marks the 190th anniversary of the Battle of the Alamo.

Tennesseans are encouraged to follow the trip on the park’s Instagram (instagram.com/davidcrockettbirthplace) and Facebook page (facebook.com/DavidCrockettBirthplaceStatePark/).
