Day of Remembrance Held at Justice Building
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — City leaders and observers gathered today for a day of remembrance.
The event was held at the Hamilton County Justice Building and was organized by the Scenic City Women’s Network.
Many gathered to remember and reflect on September 11th, 2001.
Those in attendance included Chattanooga Mayor Tim Kelly, Retired Army Brigadier General Bill Raines, and Scenic City Women’s Network Executive Director, Renee Nail.
Air Force Brigadier General (ret.) Kevin Hyde said during his speech, “Today we gather to keep faith with the 2,753 people killed in New York, 184 people killed in the pentagon, and 40 people killed on flight 93.”
Prayers, stories, and memories were shared.
David Roddy, City of Chattanooga Chief Operating Officer told us, “What do we do with September 12th? What does it mean to us going forward. How do we change the things that we do. How do we become more thoughtful, more reflective, more caring, more empathetic to each other and as a country? I just believe that there’s two sides to this story of how did it hurt us, and how do we heal from it.”
One thing brings everyone together on this anniversary of tragedy: Everyone who remembers will never forget.
