Dead body found inside pickup truck in Cherokee County

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Nc. (WDEF) —  A dead body was discovered inside a pickup truck in Cherokee County on US 64.

Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office reported at 10:18 p.m. October 7, 2024, Cherokee County Communications got a call about a suspicious male located in the Wolf Creek Community.

The person who called reported they saw the male on the side of the road and stopped to check on him.

They discovered the male was bleeding, while also noticing a pickup truck off the road in a field.

The male, later identified as Georgia resident, Richard Abrain, told the person who stopped to check on him that there was a dead body in the pickup truck.

Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene and were able to confirm the previous statement to be true.

The deceased male was found in the driver’s seat of the pickup truck with gunshot wounds.

After investigating, Abrain was detained and transported to the Cherokee County Detention Center.

He is being charged with one count of Felony Murder, and is being held without bond.
