Death on New Highway 68 under investigation

MONROE COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — On Sunday evening around 5:30 p.m.,  the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, as well as the Madisonville Police Department, responded to a report on New Highway 68 at Turnpike Road about a vehicle partially stopped in the roadway.

The report indicated that the driver appeared to be unresponsive.

Upon arriving, deputies and officers contacted the driver, who then fled on foot.

Tasers were deployed, but appeared to have no effect on the driver.

The driver was eventually apprehended, but started to aggressively resist arrest.

The driver became unresponsive during the struggle once again.

CPR and Narcan were administered until emergency medical services arrived, who then transported the unresponsive driver to Sweetwater Hospital.

The driver was later pronounced deceased.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is currently conducting an investigation on the incident.
