CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Friends and family of the East Lake community came out on a rainy Saturday to remember the life of one of their beloved athletes.

Reflecting seven years since the tragic Woodmore Bus crash, members of the community came out to honor the innocent children who were lost too soon.

Zoie Nash was dedicated Saturday with a memorial ceremony.

She was one of the six children who lost their lives in the Woodmore Elementary bus crash on November 21, 2016.

Mother, Misti Nash said, “Zoie was a very sweet person. She didn’t only just change other people’s lives, she changed my life. It changed my whole life around when Zoie passed away.”

She continues to impact her East Lake and greater Chattanooga community.

Mayor Kelly declared December 9 as a day of remembrance for Zoie Nash and all the victims of the Woodmore Bus crash.

“This is the kind of event that forever changes a place… and forever changes a city. Leaving the indelible mark on our community. I think everybody here remembers what they were doing and where they were when this terrible accident happened,” Mayor of Chattanooga Tim Kelly said.

Zoie’s family was accompanied by city officials and community members to unveil a memorial in her honor.

Celebrating her love for the sport, Nash is depicted in her softball uniform– as a member of the East Lake Khaos team.

Along with the memorial dedication, purple and white balloons were released in her memory.

The East Lake Community Center also dedicated a special photo collage to Nash’s mother.

As seven years have passed since the tragic bus crash, we reflect on the innocent lives lost and continue to acknowledge the severity of this tragedy.

“In the years since, it’s been inspiring to see our city come together. Joining arms to remember and to honor those whose lives were lost way too early. We will never forget those precious, young faces. Today we celebrate all of their lives. Zoie Nash of course, Zyanna Harris,Cor’Dayja Jones, Keon’te Wilson, D’Myunn Brown, and  Zyaira Mateen,” Kelly said.
