DeKalb County inmates train shelter dogs for adoption

DEKALB COUNTY, Al. (WDEF) —  The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) is teaming up with the DeKalb County Animal Adoption Center (DCAAC) on a new initiative aimed at helping shelter dogs find permanent homes while providing inmates with a meaningful rehabilitation opportunity.

As part of the program, inmates will work with a different shelter dog each month, teaching them basic training and socialization skills.

The goal is to make the dogs more adoptable by improving their behavior and preparing them for life in a family setting.

Once a dog completes its training, the sheriff’s office will post pictures and updates on Facebook to help connect potential adopters with the animal shelter.

Those interested in adopting can contact the DeKalb County Animal Adoption Center at (256) 304-0474 to complete an application.
