DeKalb County narcotics agents seize 1 kilo of meth, arrest 2 men

DEKALB COUNTY, Ala. (WDEF) — DeKalb County authorities seized one kilo of methamphetamine on Friday and arrested two suspects in that case.

The sheriff’s office said on April 26, narcotics agents spotted 51-year-old Thomas Dewayne Bailey’s vehicle on Glenn Boulevard. They knew Bailey, of Flat Rock, Alabama, had active warrants from Jackson County for trafficking meth.

Additionally, 45-year-old Edwin Adam Hamilton of Section, Alabama, was a passenger in the vehicle.

Agents boxed in Bailey’s car and “conducted a controlled takedown,” according to the sheriff’s office. They arrested both Bailey and Hamilton.

Agents found and seized 1 kilo (1,014 grams) of meth while searching the vehicle.

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office said Bailey is a “habitual offender,” known for distributing meth throughout DeKalb and Jackson Counties. They said he faces a long-term prison sentence.

Alabama Pardons and Paroles placed an ankle monitor on Bailey just earlier that day, but Bailey had cut it off.

He now faces the following charges:

  • Trafficking any illegal drug
  • Unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Resisting arrest
  • Attempting to elude

Hamilton also faces these charges:

  • Trafficking any illegal drug
  • Unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Resisting arrest

Sheriff Nick Welden made this statement on the arrest:

“I am so proud of our law enforcement officers in the way this situation was handled. Our officers go through intensive training and numerous scenarios, so that they will know the best way to keep everyone safe, and Friday night, they showed up and showed out.

The amount of methamphetamine that was seized would have ruined hundreds, if not thousands, of lives in this small community. We will never stop fighting to take this poison off the streets and to keep this out of the hands of our children. God Bless!”
