DeKalb releases more info on Ider, AL shooting
Officers say it started when a man and woman were struggling over a gun
IDER, Alabama (WDEF) – DeKalb County officials have released more information on a police shooting in Ider ten days ago
The say it stemmed from a domestic dispute.
A woman was shot at a home and then moved to another where police responded.
She remained in stable condition a week later.
When deputies learned of the original shooting scene, they confronted Jacob Lee Correll in the back yard.
They say he threatened the lives of law enforcement officers, but aren’t saying how.
The release says they shot him, and he fled in a vehicle.
They were able to chase him down and took him to the hospital, where he was treated and released.
Correll faces charges of Domestic Violence 2nd, Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, Resisting Arrest, Attempt to Elude, and Attempted Assault 1st (x2).
Investigators determined that Correll and the victim were struggling over a gun when it went off.
Rhonda Kay Correll was also charged with 2nd Degree Assault.
DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden said of the incident: “DCSO Deputies, Investigators, SRT and Officers with Ider and Henagar Police Departments worked tirelessly in sorting through all of this and to bring closure to this case. I am thankful the injuries both victims sustained were not life threatening and also grateful there were no other injuries.”
But the story doesn’t end there.
A couple of days after the shooting, the Ider Police Department was informed of a burglary that happened sometime over the holidays.
Someone had broken into a shop and stole tools, vehicle parts and farming equipment along with a Chevy Trailblazer.
Four school buses on the property have also been stripped of parts.
That investigation led them back to Jacob Lee Correll from the shooting.
They added more theft charges on him and also arrested Waylon James Parsons for receiving stolen goods.
The Sheriff reports they have recovered about 80% of the stolen goods.
